Help Stamp Out Hunger on May 12 — Largest Single-Day Food Drive in US
Here at FOODBEAST we’re dedicated to bringing our readers the top stories regarding all things food and beverage in the United States, the world and beyond (yup we cover food in space too). But every once in awhile there’s a way for us to do good in this world by spreading the word about something great. About something that’s bigger than the Cool Ranch Doritos Loco Taco. Bigger than the Chicken and Waffle Cone. Bigger than ourselves, and we’ve got some big dudes in the office. It’s the opportunity to help someone in your community put food on their table.
On May 12, 2012, this upcoming Saturday, The Campbell Soup Company will be partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to collect non-perishable food items for the millions of Americans struggling with hunger everyday. This Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive which has collected over 70 million pounds of food every year for the past eight years.
What you can do to help.
This Saturday, leave a durable bag with a few canned items and/or non-perishable goods wherever your mail carrier comes to drop off your mail. By spending a few dollars or simply donating a few items that have been forsaken in your pantry – you will help one of the 49 million people living in food-insecure homes across the US.
I understand that this isn’t a solution to end hunger or poverty, but it is a chance for all of us (foodies, college students, mom-bloggers, hipsters, Redditors, etc) to come together to make a difference for someone underneath the radar in our community. Before you read another article (but please come back and read 65 more articles), fill a bag and make a note to leave it for your mailman on Saturday.
