At 42 years old, Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant has been the cornerstone of the Los Angeles fine dining scene. I sat down with the iconic and influential chef to talk about innovation, the restaurant’s enduring legacy, and, of course, to savor his signature dishes.

The legend himself guided us through his iconic creations and showed us how to recreate his favorite childhood dessert, kaiserschmarrn.

“We didn’t have a lot of money when I grew up, so we actually ate sweets for dinner. Kaiserschmarrn was one of them,” Puck shared. For those unfamiliar, it’s like an extra fluffy and pillowy sweet pancake. Paired with raspberry sauce and strawberries, just as Puck did in the clip above, it becomes a dessert that’s a symphony of flavors.

Seeing Wolfgang Puck still working his magic in the kitchen is nothing short of inspiring. It’s a testament to the incredible work ethic and passion that have propelled him to the upper echelon of his industry.

But beyond the greatness on a plate and the sprawling restaurant empire is Puck’s constant, burning desire to keep taking food to another level.
