Yao Ming Wine

A lot of words come to mind when you hear the name Yao Ming. Words including tall, athletic, injured list and retired all come to mind when the name is uttered. Now it seems that the basketball all-star is trying to synonymize his namesake with ‘wine.’

It was recently announced that the recently retired Houston Rockets player is starting his own winery called Yao Family Wines. Don’t let the hokey celebrity endorsement fool you, though. Yao’s winery means business. The winery, based out of the renown Nappa Valley, boasts its wines are aged in nothing but pure French Oak barrels for at least 18 months and of those barrels only a few are hand selected for the final blend.

The first wine to be released under Yao Family Wines will be (surprise) Yao Ming, a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are now available in China and will be hitting the US sometime in 2012.
