This Underground Supper Club Expertly Pairs Cannabis With Fine Dining
One of the best havens for great conversation and connection is a good meal. Sure, we can chat on Zoom, but a virtual dinner date just doesn’t hit the same. Thankfully, with the outside world back moving, we’ve had a much needed return to local food spots.
Some are even subverting expectations by offering more curated food gatherings. One example of that is the The Peach Oz Experience by the Cannabis Supper Club, done in collaboration with Wonderbrett.
Wonderbrett is a cannabis brand with a focus on high quality flavor profiles that enhance your everyday lifestyle. They Voltron’d with Cannabis Supper Club’s all-star line up of chefs, which includes Chris Binotto, Danielle Duran-Zecca and Jack Daniel Hotchkin, to create a fine dining experience that pairs well with specific Wonderbrett cannabis strains.
Originally known as underground restaurants, supper clubs were typically invite-only. Prohibition still loomed and these clubs were a gathering place for burgeoning youth culture who needed a place to unwind.
The Peach Oz Experience continued in much of the same traditions, but elevated things by offering an exclusive setting filled with music from DJ Charisma, art, and delicious food paired with quality cannabis. The centerpiece of the evening was a Wonderbrett strain named Peach Oz, known for its earthy musk, cozy high and of course, peachy sweetness.
To begin our five-course excursion, Chefs Chris Binotto and Jack Daniel Hotchkin prepared an amuse bouche of cheese tart with peach marmalade. The crispy crust of the tart was actually made from Wonder Bread, filled with rich and creamy cheese, and topped with sweet and honey-like peach marmalade. The next course was a scallop crudo prepared by Chef Jack Daniel. It featured the sweet tang of peach vinaigrette and jicama, accompanied by the spicy zest of garlic and chili oil served over dry ice.
Arriving at the middle of our supper club adventure, we received a new strain to pair with the next dish. The Orange Banana strain is known for being citrusy, with subtle hints of creamy banana and musky undertones. To pair, Chef Danielle Duran-Zecca shared a sweet and delicious squash agnolotti that consisted of seasonal ingredients like tart pomegranate seeds, Galleta Maria cookies, and syrupy, yet light, pomegranate molasses atop savory pumpkin seed pesto.
The main course for the nite was a duck breast prepared by executive Chef Binotto. Rejoining us for our evening exploration was Wonderbrett’s Peach Oz strain. Here it was complimented by roast duck with a chili peach glaze dressing, tri-color carrots, and accented by candy crisp ginger.
By this point, I was experiencing a harmonious high that can only be enhanced by the fifth and final course, a chocolate tart with passion fruit cremieux. Deep and delectable, the richness cannot be overstated. A third and final strain called Pink Picasso sealed the evening’s pairings.
What’s great about the marriage of social clubs and food is that it places the community aspect into an intimate setting. We usually break bread with people we enjoy being around, and food is a great way to connect. The Peach Oz Experience provided just, along with the relaxing perk of an expertly curated, medicated meal. To attend future Cannabis Supper Club events, visit this link.
