Good Mythical Morning Learns That Big Macs Are Actually Healthier Than Whoppers [WATCH]

Fast food is notorious for being on the unhealthy side. However, when it comes to health, it may be surprising to hear that a Big Mac actually trumps a Burger King Whopper in nearly every single way.

YouTube channel Good Mythical Morning attempted to guess, based on taste alone, which of the two fast food icons was unhealthier based on calories, fat, and sodium content. While both thought that the Whopper was more caloric and saltier, Rhett figured the Big Mac to be saltier while Link was convinced that McDonald’s hallmark item had more fat. To their shock, the Whopper was the worse item across all three categories.

Consuming BK’s signature sandwich will result in about 130 additional calories, an extra 13 grams of fat, and 20 milligrams more of sodium. The salt content isn’t too different, but the separation in total fat is staggering, especially when you consider that hosts Rhett and Link didn’t even slap cheese onto their Whopper.

So what makes Burger King’s crown jewel more of a gut buster than the Big Mac? It has to do with proportions: a single patty on the BK icon weighs a quarter pound, or four ounces, while each of McDonald’s Big Mac patties is only a single ounce. Thus, even though McDonald’s piles on the fatty special sauce and an extra bun, containing roughly double the beef means that the Whopper is definitely more nutrient dense.

Based on Good Mythical Morning’s research, if you’re looking to be a little more calorie conscious while on the fast food prowl, you’ll be better off picking the Big Mac over the Whopper.
