Wendy’s Blasts McDonald’s Frozen Beef With FIVE Super Bowl Ads
Folks, Wendy’s just spent millions of dollars on an all-out offensive against McDonald’s, and it was brutal.
Wendy’s took out a total of five different Super Bowl ads against their golden-arched rival. Considering that a 30-second ad this year cost $5 million, according to Business Insider, it’s clear that Wendy’s is willing to spend big to set their narrative against McDonald’s.
The story? That McDonald’s sells flash frozen beef, whereas Wendy’s serves theirs fresh, allowing them to cook them to order and make them juicier. It’s a sharp quality angle that Wendy’s appears to be hoping to use to give them a position against McDonald’s, who is currently killing it in the fast food value menu game (and has their own fresh beef patties coming soon).
With sales and profits falling short of expectations in the most recent fiscal quarter, Wendy’s went for a big move in the Super Bowl. They chose to bring the internet savagery of their Twitter account onto the big screen, ripping McDonald’s for their frozen beef across all five commercials. Their mud-slinging was like that of an election campaign, even going as far as to call the Golden Arches the “frozen arches.” Ouch.
One of those that aired, “Iceberg,” is shown above, and you can view the remaining four Super Bowl ads below:
“We Did Some Light Stalking”
“Flash Frozen? We Prefer Fresh, Never Frozen”
“Fresh Never Frozen in Every Hamburger Every Day”
“Honesty is the Best Policy”
With the relentless assault just launched against them, McDonald’s may try to fire shots back at Wendy’s. But be warned: few mess with the queen of fast food Twitter and walk away unscathed.
