Visiting the Great Balls On Tires Food Truck [ADVENTURE]

Our coverage of the summer series Lunch Truck It event every Wednesday in Long Beach, CA continues, this time showing the eats at the humorously delicious Great Balls On Tires gourmet food truck. The meal truck is a brainchild of friends Clint Peralta and Michael Brombart, with the group rounding out their repertoire a month after their launch with former Comme Ca restaurant Executive Chef Michael David.

Great Balls On Tires, or G-Bot for short, uses the idea of meatballs made of various proteins to give a brand perspective all their own, giving a sly wink and tongue-in-cheek menu with all of their different takes on world cuisine.

Geoff and  I went in with a ferocity on this truck. Feeling a bit of an Italian crave, Geoff jumped on the truck’s Ciao Balla offering, a meatball made of veal + pork + pancetta marinara and layers of shaved Parmesan, fresh basil on a toasted brioche bun. My dish, pictured above on the left, on a bed of rice, was called Ballywood, a concoction of Garam Masala Chicken, Coconut Madras Curry, Crispy Fried Onions, Tomato Chutney, Cilantro Chutney on a bed of Saffron Basmati Rice.

Clint, seen above, was handling orders like a champ, peering out all which sides of the truck to get people their balls on time [?]. Time for seconds? Why not, our Italian friend Ryan needs to eat too:

Their menu is simple and to the point, covering traditional American flavors, Korean flavors (Ball Gogi is a Korean inspired meatball slider with Korean BBQ marinated beef, kimchi, and Asian noodles), Middle Eastern flavors (Ballafel) and an always intriguing Guest Ball menu item that features balls from participating chefs and guest ideas on a periodically alternating basis.

Prices are fair, with 2 ball dishes ranging from $4.50 to $6.50. For those looking to get a taste of some quality balls (had enough of this meatball jokes yet?), make sure to follow the G-Bot Truck on Twitter, Facebook and peek at their menu via their website.
