Look around and you’ll see inflation’s impact on everyday life. Keeping your fridge stocked and your stomach full is emptying your pockets. Dining out is expensive, food delivery apps have exorbitant hidden fees, and grocery receipts show higher totals for fewer items.
On X, formally known as Twitter, internet hall of fame shared a video of a man who compared his Walmart grocery list from 2022 to an identical one made recently. His 2022 online order included the exact same products, but the price was noticeably different.
Recently, while online grocery shopping, he spotted Walmart’s “Reorder All” option and wanted to see if the price of an older order had changed. “I found this Walmart order from two years ago, for the whole month’s worth of groceries,” the guy said, flabbergasted over what he found.
There were 53 items in his original order and the total came up to $126.67 with free delivery. He purchased the groceries for himself. To his surprise, the exact same order from 2022 is $414.39 today, almost four times the price.
In less than two years, food prices have nearly quadrupled, leaving him speechless. Even retailers known for their discounts are now expensive. This doesn’t even include the potential cost of delivery and other service fees that online retailers often tack on.
This clip is a painfully glaring example of how it’s become increasingly difficult to afford the basics.
