USDA Joins Twitter: Fastest Way to Announce Food Recalls
Everyone and their mother is on Twitter. So it became pretty clear to the United States Department of Agriculture that one the quickest, most effective, means of getting word out on food recalls is to join the popular social media network. It’s genius if you think about how much faster it will be for people to find out about dangerous food recalls without having to wait for a story to break on the news or internet.
Food alerts (regarding: meat, poultry, and egg products) that are specified to the state will be tweeted with the tw0-letter abrreviation designated to that state, along with an FSISAlert. So if a product has been recalled in California, it will have the name followed by “CA_FSISAlert”
