Tupac’s Pop-Up Restaurant ‘Powamekka Café’ Hits Los Angeles for Limited-Time

Originally launched back in 2017 in New York City’s Lower East Side, Powamekka Café is a pop-up restaurant concept inspired by hip hop legend Tupac Shakur.

The original iteration was housed in Sweet Chick, a restaurant owned by rapper Nas and partner John Seymour. It was conceived to celebrate Shakur’s induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Starting today, westsiders curious to experience a taste of Tupac can visit its new location at Fixins Soul Kitchen in Downtown Los Angeles. Hungry fans can expect a menu featuring Pac’s comfort food favorites like fried chicken wings, gumbo and meatloaf.

Originally envisioned while Tupac was alive, according to notes found by his family, Powamekka Café was a place he wanted people to “play and parlay.” The pop-up aligns with the Tupac-focused Wake Me When I’m Free museum experience which has been a popular attraction for Angelinos and is located across the street at The Canvas.

The Powamekka Café will be open for two weeks only, starting today through June 30. The restaurant’s hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
