Thomas Has New Salted Caramel English Muffins
With salted caramel taking new forms from ice cream to lattes and beyond, it’s not surprising that Thomas has decided to develop a salted caramel flavor. The limited-edition flavor will soon be available in two different 6-pack products, bagels and English muffins.
I tried the English muffin version. For my first taste I popped the muffin into the toaster and spread butter on it just as I would with a normal English muffin.
There seem to be little chunks of salted caramel in the English muffin itself as you can see here. Other than that, they look fairly similar to normal Thomas English muffins. The chunks are apparently similar to their limited edition pumpkin spice English muffins and bagels which have pumpkin chunks.
The chunks definitely drew some doubt into me that there would be strong flavor, or a flavor recognizable as salted caramel would be there at all.
After my first bite, my mouth was overwhelmed with the taste of salted caramel. My skepticism was dead wrong. I probably should have realized this, but I wasn’t expecting to be so completely overwhelmed by the sweetness.
I do think that either the butter or toasting helped bring out the flavor. Later, after my mouth was a little less overwhelmed with caramel flavor, I did try another one. This time plain not bothering to alter it in any way and it was definitely less overwhelming flavor wise. The salted caramel flavor was still there but it was nowhere near as prominent, although this might be better for people who don’t want something as overwhelmingly sweet.
The English muffins will be sold at about $4.49 and have 150 calories per serving with 1 gram of fact and sold at about $4.49. The bagels will be sold at $4.79 and have 260 calories per serving with 1.5 grams of fat.
Salted Caramel lovers can get their sweet tooth ready for June 27 when the limited edition flavor will begin to be available in stores nationwide in both its English muffin and bagel forms. They will be available until mid-October.
