This Vegan Bakery Was Called Out For Allegedly Selling A Non-Vegan Donut From Dunkin’

A supposed vegan bakery in Long Island, New York has come under fire on social media last week for allegedly trying to pass off non-vegan donuts from national chain Dunkin’ Donuts as their own.

The local vegan market ‘cindysnacks’ (@cindysnacks) made the post on social media calling out Savory Fig for including a donut that looked eerily similar to a sprinkled donut from Dunkin’ Donuts. The biggest cause for concern from the market was the possibilty of the non-vegan, non-gluten free nature of the donut in question.

In the caption, cindysnacks stated “On February 23rd the owner of Savory Fig dropped off the baked goods we ordered from her, including her donuts. In the middle of the boxes was the donut pictured in the first slide. I (John) immediately became concerned as to why this one donut was decorated differently than all the others and in such a strikingly similar way to a recognizable chain.”

In the original Instagram post by cindysnacks, the market even went as far as testing the gluten content of the said donut, clearly reavealing that it was not in fact gluten-friendly; citing that it’s both irresponsible and hazardous to the health of those with gluten allergies to pass something off as gluten-free.

Savory Fig has denied the claims, and have since deleted their social media presence under the storm of controversy. Until the entire story comes to light, for now we can assume that both the Savory Fig and America, runs on Dunkin’.

This is hardly the first time a small restaurant/bakery has tried to pass off a national chain’s product as their own; reminding us of a 2017 scandal that Foodbeast was able to experience first-hand involving ‘Louisiana chicken.’
