This Chocolate Might Work Like Viagra

Brace yourself. Chocolate euphemisms are coming. And in the interest of staying family-friendly, I officially declare this article pun-free. Anything suggestive you pick up is your own fault. Shame on you.

The big news here is the potential for chocolate Viagra, or rather, Viagra-esque chocolate. Here’s the deal: Barry Callebaut, the current world-leader in the manufacture of cocoa and chocolate products, got some positive affirmation from the European Food Safety Authority on its claims that “cocoa flavanols, which are usually removed during conventional chocolate-making processes, help increase blood flow.”

Basically, this means that said cocoa flavanols have a similar, if more general, affect on the body as compared to the tiny blue pill we’ve come to know and love. Or at least know. People wouldn’t be looking for more natural alternatives to Viagra if it were perfect.

The Daily Mail says that not only is the European Union prepared to approve Barry Callebaut’s claim, but clear the manufacturing company for producing “turbo-charged chocolate” products (which one would think defeats the purpose of the natural alternatives, but okay), because that doesn’t sound a little intimidating at all.

They also quoted Angus Kennedy, founder of Kennedy’s Confection trade magazine, as saying, “It’s an all-natural ingredient which could give men the legendary staying power of some of the world’s greatest lovers. I’ve been in the business for 35 years and this is probably one of the most exciting things I’ve seen.”

Everything in that quote makes me giggle.

In any case, U.K. readers should keep an eye out for sex chocolate in the near future. Look at it this way, guys: If things don’t work out for you, you can always hand that candy bar off to your partner. At least one of you can enjoy it.

Again, no pun intended.
