Taco Bell Says They’ll Be The First Fast Food Chain To Serve Cage-Free Eggs

Taco Bell has announced that they will be serving cage-free eggs at all of its locations by the end of 2016. By doing so, the fast food chain will become the first national quick service restaurant to put the eggy change they’ve been planing into action.

Sure, they weren’t the first to announce it. However, they’re saying they’re the first to act on it and set a date.

With more than 6,000 US corporate and franchised restaurants, Taco Bell has given itself a hard deadline of Dec. 31, 2016 to switch out all the eggs at every location.

Because of this change, The American Humane Society says about 500,000 hens will benefit from the switch each year.

Currently, the Taco Bell breakfast menu features a plethora of egg-based items like the biscuit taco, breakfast burritos and the AM Crunchwrap. With so many eggs going through each store every day, switching between regular and cage-free eggs within a year is a pretty admirable feat.

Cage-free, or free ranged, eggs typically have less cholesterol and saturated fats than their locked-up counterparts. However, the cage-free eggs will boast more vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids and beta carotene (which keeps skin and eyes healthy).

Sounds like a plan T-Bell. Let’s get those eggs ready to go so we can have our breakfast burritos.
