Taco Bell Announces the Return of the Beefy Crunch Burrito
Taco Bell has had its fair share of hyped items over the years, many of which have their status further sensationalized by their limited time offerings. With their Beefy Crunch Burrito, the ridiculousness behind a single product continues.
When the item launched late last year, I had a feeling the addition of spicy chips to a burrito would strike a chord with the general fast food community. Sure enough, people responded with ferocity.
A month after its launch, fan recreations were abundant, particularly this beautiful Homemade Crunchy Burrito. Curiously enough, earlier this year, Irvine-based Del Taco revealed a very similar concept — A Nacho Crunch Burrito.
In March of 2011, the fandom behind the Beefy Crunch Burrito saw an almost questionable escalation. An enraged customer out of San Antonio was charged with 3 counts of attempted murder after he realized the seven burritos he ordered had risen in price from $0.99 to $1.49 each. DAMN. I’m all for being passionate about your favorite food item, but attempted murder? Sensitive much?
With over 7 and a half million Likes on their Facebook brand page, Taco Bell was bound to have its fair share of rabid fans, and for every one person who may make the occasional “Taco Bell made me gassy”-joke, there are a horde of other Taco Bellers who need their taco fix on the daily and will defend their beloved taco brand to the death.
Don’t believe me?
Cue first rabid group of fans — 3 Million Fans for the Beefy Crunch Burrito — a Facebook group spearheaded by amorous Beefy Crunch Burrito activist Richard Axton, with a cohesive call to action: “BRING BACK THE BEEFY CRUNCH BURRITO.”
Something about the combination of Flamin’ Hot Fritos chips coupled with the brand’s seasoned beef, rice, sour cream, and nacho cheese sauce that makes people go nuts.
Taco Bell was apparently very attentive to their social media audiences, and have officially confirmed the limited-time return of the Beefy Crunch Burrito.
The burrito will officially make its return on December 22nd, 2011 and will be offered up for $0.99 or as part of a $3.99 combo meal (as well as part of the $5 Box meal).
Voices are being heard.
Here are a few pictures from a recent trip we made to the Taco Bell headquarters out in Irvine. We got a chance to meet Richard (very cool guy) of the aforementioned 3 Million Fans for the Beefy Crunch Burrito Facebook fan page as well as get buck-nasty in their test kitchen (more on that in a future article).
Take note of the last picture, a version of the Beefy Crunch Burrito, but with the addition of steak. You should ask for it at your particular Taco Bell when the item launches, they might charge you more, but it’s the bomb:
