Strawberries Help Save Your Stomach From Alcohol?

Last fourth of July, I passed out after finishing three bottles of champagne and somehow awoke a few hours later with a stomach that hadn’t completely eaten itself out. Apparently, European researchers claim this might be due to the fact that each glass I had downed involved several halved strawberries.

The study finds that consuming strawberries may help prevent damage to the stomach’s mucas membrane brought on by drinking too much alcohol. The experiment was held on rats, but the results showed that eating strawberries may contribute to improving the treatment of stomach ulcers.

Researcher Sara Tulipani of the University of Barcelona explained that the positive effects of strawberries are linked to their antioxidant capacity, high content of anthocyans and the fact that they activate the antioxidant defenses and enzymes of the body.

While more information and research is needed, the most exciting lead of this new research is that the compounds within strawberries could be the answer to new protective treatments for ulcers and other gastric pathologies.

Strawberries before I get drunk? I can do that.

Plus one for Strawberries.
