Starbucks Doing Away with CDs at the Front Counter
That Taylor Swift CD at Starbucks that nobody buys because it’s already downloaded to their iPhone will disappear from the front counter forever, along with any other CD that you’ve always ignored when placing your coffee order.
According to Billboard, Starbucks will no longer be selling physical copies of music albums, a feature that had become a staple in the chain’s front counter.
Since 1999, these CDs have eaten up about a square foot of space that can now be filled with an additional tip jar, or maybe some more gift cards.
The CDs will officially disappear in March, but Starbucks said it still plans to “evolve” its music-selling strategy, which unless they have come up with a new revolutionary medium for music, probably means they’ll just be selling more digital downloads.
As we say goodbye to Kenny G’s curly locks staring us in the face, we’ll still be able to appreciate him for his contribution to the Frappuccino.
