Stanley Issues Statement Addressing The Lead In Its Tumblers
Rumors are surfacing that the 40oz Stanley Tumbler, the one you patiently waited hours for or perhaps even physical fought someone for, might now contain detectable amounts of lead.
Let’s just take a step back here. A brand that has been around since 1913, 100+ years, is still on the market and thriving in sales even though their products have lead? Something isn’t adding up here. Is it the rumors?
Spoiler alert: you don’t need to throw out your $45 beverage container. Cue the sigh of relief for every tween out there who snagged one of these tumblers for Christmas.
Stanley issued a statement recently that notes the bottom of each quencher (aka the tumbler) is a circular barrier made of stainless steel, which covers a pellet that contains lead. The pellet seals the product’s vacuum insulation, and it is not accessible unless the stainless steel barrier comes off — which is possible, but not likely since the tumbler can even survive a car fire.
Bottom line, fans have a right to be concerned, however, there is no lead present on the surface or inside of the cup, which means this does not call for a recall on Stanley and its coveted tumblers.
