Adventure: Spike’s Junkyard Dogs (Boston, Mass.)
There are a lot of great things in the world named Spike. Rugrat’s main character, Tommy Pickles’s dog was fittingly named “Spike”. The infamous mens television network, “Spike TV” alongside famous film directors: Spike Lee and Spike Jonze. There are many other people/characters you might known that could be on this list, but I found a restaurant that should fit in nicely. My friends and I visited Spike’s Junkyard Dogs in Boston which lived up to its predecessors prestige. Check it out as we explore this junkyard full of burgers, chicken and hot dogs!
As soon as you walk into Spike’s Junkyard Dogs you are overwhelmed with good vibes. Whether it be the black and white garage type tiles where your dog sleeps, or the funny signs that are nailed on the wall! Ether way, you came to the right place to chow down!
My friends and I were prepared to get our Foodbeast on, but not as much as Spike’s Kennel Club! At the minimum, you have to eat six of their 100% jumbo beef hot dogs to get on the wall. If you couldn’t tell from the picture below, a lot of people have done it, but only few have made it into the doghouse! To be called a “Chowhound” you must scarf down up to 11-12 dogs, a “Mighty Dog” is between 14-15, and to be even considered a “Top Dog” you have to eat between 16-17 hot dogs!
Wanting to save room for the 5-liter box of wine we got before hand (keeping it classy), we decided not to be enshrined on the wall.
What we got here is the Spike’s 57 T-Bird which consists of Honey Mustard and melting Swiss cheese! Pictured below is Spike’s Patriot Dog which is topped with bacon and melting Swiss cheese. Both are served with a hearty helping of curly fries.
I for sure can throw down six of these, no problem!
FoodBeast’s very own chili-cheese fries analyst, Viraj Patel got the Spike’s 1/3 Black Angus Hamburger with a side of chili-cheese fries:
I kept my protein game at an all time high with Spike’s Double Black Angus Hamburger. They topped my burger off with green onions and their secret sauce. It was crazy good, I inhaled it!
Spike’s Junkyard Dogs is the place to be for your hot dog, hamburger or even chicken sandwich needs! Everything is made fresh to order and you can’t seem go wrong with anything on their menu. I’m still pretty disappointed I didn’t get to try the hot dog eating contest, maybe next time. Make sure to check out Spike’s website so you can find a pound near you!
