Traces Of Party Drugs & Pesticides Found In ‘100% Natural’ Chicken
While MDMA is one of the more known party drugs these days, Ketamine, AKA “Special K,” has been known to put ravers and party-goers in a trance for years.
That same drug, however, could have been in your Sanderson Farms’ “100% Natural” chicken, as the Organic Consumers Association, Friends of the Earth, and the Center for Food Safety claim so in a lawsuit.
Sanderson Farms is the third largest chicken producer in the U.S., and based off 69 tests conducted by the USDA in five different states, there were 49 instances where the farms tested positive for substances that weren’t “100% natural,” according to the lawsuit.
According to Bloomberg, Sanderson Farms countered these claims by saying they do not, “administer the antibiotics, other chemicals and pesticides, or ‘other pharmaceuticals’ listed in the complaint with one exception. Our veterinarians do from time to time prescribe penicillin in FDA approved doses to treat sick flocks.”
The plaintiffs think they can prove the sketchy chicken practices, as they said they have copies of the USDA tests, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, though Sanderson does intend to put up a fight.
The term “all natural” has been known to be abused by the food industry, as the FDA has talked about giving a clearer definition of it in the past, but you still see it stamped on all sorts of packaging.
We’ll see how the lawsuit plays out, but if they’re going to put psychotropic drugs in our chicken, they better at least buy us an EDC ticket to go along with it.
