This Japanese Brand Lights Your Living Space Up Using Real Bread

Yukiko Morita is the artist behind PAMP SHADE, a bread making company that turns the simple ingredients of flour, water, salt and yeast into works of usable art. Considered a creative label, her products are inspired by the experience of enjoying freshly baked bread, which encapsulates the beauty of a moment.

Yukiko Morita believes that fresh bread carries a gentle charm and has the power to change our mood and warm our hearts. Beyond tasty, hand-crafted freshness, the qualities of the bread are illuminated through artistic transmutations that come in the form of unique lighting, clocks and more.

This is accomplished by procuring unsold bread and yeast from affiliated bakeries. The hope is to highlight the wasteful aspect of most bakeries, where perfectly edible leftovers are discarded. In addition to salvaging leftovers, Morita aims to support bakeries by purchasing the bread at the highest possible price. Her ultimate hope is to have a positive impact on small bakeries and bread-lovers worldwide.

To bring the creations to life, Morita hollows the bread out, preserving its texture, then applying an antiseptic and anti-fungal coating that ensures long-term use of 5 to 10 years. Their main products are her Pampshade collection, which includes the Bread Lamp Roll and Croissant & Batard. Additional offerings are the cleverly named Naaaan-Time clocks made using naan bread and lastly, staying true to the brands sustainable approach, their Nakami Rusk; seasoned bread crumbs from hollowed out bread leftovers.
