You Tell Us: How Hot Are Popeyes’ New Ghost Pepper Wings?
Apparently Popeyes’ recently launched Spice Box didn’t perform as well as they had hoped, even when paired with Dom Perignon. It looks like the fried chicken chain is taking a step back and refocusing their spice game. They’re going spicier.
Turning to the bhut jolokia, also known as the ghost pepper, Popeyes is combining the insane heat of the pepper with their wings to create the Ghost Pepper Wings. Measuring approximately 1 million units on the Scoville scale, ghost peppers are scientifically more than 900 times spicier than Tabasco sauce.
The wings are marinated for 12 hours in a blend of peppers, which you can apparently taste right down to the bone. The chicken appendages are then battered, breaded and deep-fried in a southern-style crispy coating.
At $3.99, a box of wings comes with six pieces, a biscuit and some buttermilk ranch for dipping. Price may vary depending on location.
Like most things new and different in the world of fast food, the Ghost Pepper Wings are only available for a limited time.
If anyone’s already tried them, sound off below and tell us if they actually achieve ghost pepper spiciness.
