This Pizza Math Problem Proves Schoolteachers Are Haters

If you hated solving math problems growing up, this question’s really going to piss you off. Even worse, whoever wrote it decided to associate pizza with this terribly-worded question.

A photo posted to reddit, showed a math question that read:

“Reasonableness: Marty ate 4/6 of his pizza and Luis ate 5/6 of his pizza. Marty ate more pizza than Luis. How is that possible?”

Apparently, this doubled as a logic question, and the students were supposed to identify that it is not possible. What the teacher probably didn’t anticipate was an even more logical answer:

“Marty’s pizza is bigger than Luis’s pizza.”

It makes perfect sense! If this question was supposed to be a curveball, that answer was a nasty slider, thrown by Randy Johnson, in his prime, and the teacher probably didn’t know what to do, so the instructor went into default mode and marked the answer wrong, saying:

“That is not possible because 5/6 is greater than 4/6 so Luis ate more.”

This teacher was very wrong, as the young student proved. It is very possible and the kid should have gotten extra credit, not that big fat “X.”

Questions like these are why I have trust issues. If you’re going to ask a dumb-ass question, don’t get mad when you get a brilliant response.
