OREO Shipments Delayed As Result Of Massive Cyber Attack

If you’ve been struggling to find Key Lime Pie OREOs, the new Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha OREOs, or just OREOs in general at your local grocery stores, there may be a specific reason why.

Mondelez, the parent company of the ever-popular creme sandwich cookie, announced yesterday that they were the victim of a massive cyber attack that occurred on June 27. The ransomware installed into their systems prevented the shipment of OREOs, Cadbury chocolate, Trident gum, and other Mondelez products worldwide.

In a press release, Mondelez noted that “there are a few markets where we have permanently lost some of that revenue due to holiday feature timing, but we expect we will be able to recognize the majority of these delayed shipments in our third quarter results.” This means that some limited releases, like the Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha OREOs pictured above, haven’t been able to be fully distributed across the country as a result of the malware.

Mondelez is going to take a three-percent hit in second-quarter sales as a result, but should recover all of the lost revenue in the upcoming third quarter of 2017. Fortunately for us, their systems are back up and running, so expect to find the new OREOs plus all of the regulars to be fully distributed very soon.
