Random Teen Breaks Ellen’s Twitter Record, Gets A Year Of Free Nuggets

A confident high schooler swung for the fences and recently asked Wendy’s how he could earn a year’s-worth of free chicken nuggets. In true snark form, Wendy’s replied with “18 million,” re-tweets, and thus began Carter Wilkerson’s mission for an impossible amount of re-tweets to get the prized nuggets.

While you’d think no one would pay this teen from Nevada any mind, he got an infinite amount of support for his #nuggsforcarter hashtag.

From local politicians…

…to CEOs…

… and even the legendary Ric Flair, millions of people were supporting Carter’s nugget cause.

Now it is officially the most re-tweeted tweet of all time, beating out Ellen DeGeneres’ famous selfie tweet at the 2014 Oscars.

That Ellen tweet, featuring Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey and even Julia Roberts, received 3.43 million re-tweets.

Carter’s tweet passed Ellen’s with 3.46 million re-tweets Tuesday, which fell short of Wendy’s demand, but Wendy’s went ahead and gave him a year supply of nuggets anyway.

As you can imagine, Ellen was a little peeved that her record tweet was broken, and threatened to send Bradley Cooper to take Carter’s TV and underwear:

So Carter Wilkerson now owns the re-tweet world record, and Wendy’s took it a step further by donating $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation, which helps foster children find homes.

From top to bottom, this has to be the best story of 2017, so far.
