Nick DiGiovanni Helps Make The World’s Largest Chocolate Bar Ever
The Guinness World Record for largest chocolate bar ever has just been broken by Blue Stripes. The sustainability-focused chocolate maker teamed with celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni to craft the mammoth confection and boy is it gargantuan. It measures 416 square meters, or around 4,477.78 square feet. That’s an impressive leap compared to the previous record holder’s 383.24 square meters (or 4,125.16103 square feet).
To give you an idea of just how massive Blue Stripes’ record breaker is, if you put together five pickleball courts, you’d still fall a tad short. It was unveiled in Ecuador, where the company is based, and took DiGiovanni and the Blue Stripes team 12 hours to put together. One of the major hurdles was figuring out how to connect 20cm x 25cm chocolate squares with melted, edible “chocolate glue.”
Beyond breaking records, Blue Stripes’ goal was to raise awareness about the global cacao crisis. According to Reuters, Ivory Coast and Ghana, two countries responsible for 60% of the world’s cacao, have faced three years of poor cacao harvests, and a fourth is expected. Blue Stripes uses whole cacao in order to reduce waste. It also upcycles cacao fruit that would otherwise be thrown out.
“This was about more than just breaking a record,” said Blue Stripes Founder Oded Brenner in a press release. “It was about spotlighting the challenges in the cacao industry and showing the world how we can reimagine chocolate, using every part of the cacao fruit to reduce waste, make additional value to the cacao farmers without the need to grow additional crop and create something extraordinary delicious and healthy.”
To celebrate the milestone, DiGiovanni and the Blue Stripes team broke the bar into 100,000 individual pieces and donated them to local schools and community centers.
