Uncrustables, the popular pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich snack, has become NFL players’ go-to source for carb-loading. According to The Athletic’s Jayson Jenks, the trash bins in NFL locker rooms are filling up with Uncrustables wrappers. More specifically, Jenks says that players eat at least 80,000 Uncrustables throughout the entire season.

The Denver Broncos, for example, eat the most of any team — 700 sandwiches each week. The Seattle Seahawks come in second with 320 sandwiches. Uncrustables have, presumably, become popular amongst players due to their portability and nutritional boost. The Peanut Butter & Jelly flavor offers 32 grams of protein per serving and 9 grams of protein, via Smucker Away From Home

Jenks says, “San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle eats two on flights to road games and anywhere from two to four on flights home. Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna eats them at the team facility and at home. Ravens kicker Justin Tucker grabs one from the snack table on his way to meetings. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce claimed on his podcast that he eats more of them than ‘anything else in the world.”

It’s safe to say that Uncrustables have quietly become the MVP of NFL locker rooms. Whether it’s for a quick boost before the game or a snack on the flight home, these PB&J sandwiches are fueling some of the league’s biggest names. Who would’ve thought that a childhood favorite would be the secret weapon behind some of the league’s top players?
