Nespresso Launches Coffee Honey Syrup Thanks To Bees Pollinating Their Coffee Plants

Three words: regenerative agricultural practices. Unfamiliar? Don’t worry, I was too before I took a deep dive into Nespresso’s coffee empire.

Over the last two decades, the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program has been working hand-in-hand with Colombian coffee farmers to improve not only the quality of their product but the protection of their land for the future via sustainable agricultural practices.

So where do the bees fit into all of this?

Because bees play an integral role in the production of coffee cherries, the threat of climate change and other factors like usage of pesticides are putting bees–and coffee–at risk. While climate change threatens biodiversity and the livelihoods of coffee farmers, Nespresso is committed to ensuring a quality coffee crop can survive in future generations.

Since 2020, Nespresso has been working with UBEES (the first to offer actionable beekeeping-based initiatives to global consumer brands to accelerate their 2030 sustainable commitments) to integrate beehives and monitoring technology on Nespresso AAA farms in Caldas, Colombia. With UBEES, Nespresso helps farmers become beekeepers to further regenerative agriculture efforts, promote natural pollination of the coffee plants, and increase earning potential for farmers.

Karma is clearly a factor in all of this, because with the help of their pollinating pals, Nespresso has been able to source honey from the bees pollinating their crops and develop a new line of sustainable coffee products: Nespresso Bloom.

“Supporting responsible practices in coffee farming has always been part of Nespresso’s DNA, and this pilot is a result of how sustainability is fueling our innovation strategy,”said Alfonso Gonzalez Loeschen, CEO, Nespresso North America.“Our job is to protect the future of coffee while delivering a differentiated and superior coffee experience, which is what we know our customers are excited by. Nespresso Bloom is just that, as a first-of-its-kind offering for us.”

Nespresso Bloom offers two different products: Coffee Blossom Honey and Coffee Blossom Honey Syrup. Available August 7 in New York City and San Francisco at participating Nespresso Boutiques, these variants launch nationwide August 21.

Sustainability never tasted so sweet.
