MorningStar Farms Joins Up With the Meatless Monday Campaign [OUR LOOK]

MorningStar Farms® has joined forces with the Meatless Monday campaign by introducing  two new “better for you” meat alternatives for those looking to join the movement: Veggie Meatballs and Veggie Dogs. The Veggie Meatballs have 80% less fat than leading frozen fully cooked meatballs, and the Veggie Dogs are a low-fat alternative to real meat dogs.

These products are great for those who are looking to try out meatless alternatives and may be hesitant to dive right into say a tofu or tempeh recipe. Don’t worry tofu isn’t as scary as may seem…promise. Use the Meatballs as a substitute for beef in your favorite pasta dish. Whole wheat pasta or brown rice noodles are also a great way to up the health value of a pasta dish!
A Few Meatless Monday Benefits:
CURB OBESITY: People on low-meat or vegetarian diets have significantly lower body weights and body mass indices. A recent study from Imperial College London also found that reducing overall meat consumption can prevent long-term weight gain.
REDUCE HEART DISEASE: Recent data from a Harvard University study found that replacing saturated fat-rich foods (for example, meat and full fat dairy) with foods that are rich in polyunsaturated fat (for example, vegetable oils, nuts and seeds) reduces the risk of heart disease by 19%
REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates the meat industry generates nearly one-fifth of the man-made greenhouse gas emissions that are accelerating climate change worldwide . . . far more than transportation. And annual worldwide demand for meat continues to grow. Reining in meat consumption once a week can help slow this trend.
Thanks Morning Star for letting me sample their products and helping spread the word about the awesome Meatless Monday movement!
