Earlier this week Matt Ryan of the Los Angeles Lakers became an unlikely hero and new fan-favorite after draining a game-tying 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, which set up a dramatic win against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Though 99% of folks would associate the name Matt Ryan with the star NFL quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, the one playing for the Lakers did gain some notoriety for his in-game heroics Wednesday night. But did you know that his circuitous path to the NBA included gigs as a DoorDash and Uber Eats driver?
According to the TikTok above from Bleacher Report, the Lakers small forward was moonlighting as a DoorDash driver, regional basketball coach, landscaper at a cemetery and Uber Eats delivery driver before he made his way into the NBA. The clip further reveals that Ryan was DoorDashing just a year ago when he got the call to join the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Summer League team.
Ryan has served as an unexpected beacon of sharpshooting on a Lakers team in dire need of it, which has led to more playing time for the former DoorDash driver. If he keeps up the clutch play, I’m pretty sure you’ll never see him pulling up to your front door with your Taco Bell dinner in hand.
