McDonald’s Dumps Sparboe Farms Eggs After Investigation

McDonald’s will look for a new supplier after Sparboe Farms, the country’s fifth largest producer of eggs, was in an ABC News investigation. The report included undercover footage taken by members of an animal rights group, Mercy for Animals, that showed the company’s unsanitary conditions and repeated acts of animal cruelty.

“This investigation illustrates that McDonald’s lacks the basic policies and oversight to prevent blatant animal abuse at its egg suppliers,” Nathan Runkle, Mercy for Animals executive director, told ABC News.

The fast-food chain used Sparboe Eggs for restaurants located west of the Mississippi River.

The report aired on Nov. 18, and later that night, Target also dropped Sparboe Farms as a supplier. The company told ABC News it was in the process of removing them from stores nationwide, “having been made aware of the unacceptable conditions in the company’s egg laying facilities.”
