Matty Matheson Pays Touching Tribute To The Restaurant Industry In Emmy Acceptance Speech

If ‘The Bear’ wasn’t on your must watch list before Monday night, I’m pretty sure it now is. After taking home six Emmy awards on January 15, the comedy series, which if you watched the first three episodes, does not feel like one, dominated the award show taking home Outstanding Comedy Series for 2023.

Aside from Jeremy Allen White’s Calvin Klein underwear advertisement, people were really talking about chef, executive producer, and supporting actor Matty Matheson‘s acceptance speech showing love to the restaurant industry.

“What’s good? I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” gushed Matheson, moments before receiving a flavor-packed, passionate smooch from his thrilled co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Not only is Matheson a great actor on screen, he is also a real life chef running 11 restaurants in Canada, including Matty’s Patty’s, Prime Seafood Palace, and Maker Pizza, a chain with six locations.

“I just love restaurants so much, the good, the bad,” Matheson shared. “It’s rough. We’re all broken inside, and every single day we’ve got to show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something that’s sitting at a table.”

Following that, he acknowledged his on-screen colleagues describing the filming experience as “hard work.” Matheson joked, “It’s early hours; we don’t see the sun for three months.”

The touching tribute comes at a crucial time, in fact, as the last few years have been difficult for the restaurant industry still reeling from the ripple effects of the pandemic. Your favorite local joint is likely permanently closed due to battling inflation, rising food costs, finding and retaining quality staff, controlling growing operational costs, and finding a way to reach new customers.
