Kraft Enters The Plant-Based Game With New Dairy-Free Cheese Singles

Kraft Heinz has teamed with food tech start-up NotCo to release their first plant-based offering, Kraft classic Singles. The plant-based push stems from a February partnership, which operates under the venture, Kraft Heinz Not Company.

Using NotCo’s patented AI-driven technology has given Kraft the opportunity to enter the plant-based space without having to make a significant investment in R&D. It’s part of a larger long-term plan by the company to progress toward Environmental Social Governance (ESG), as outlined in their 2022 “Together at the Table” report.

Simply named Not Cheese, the new Kraft Singles will be available in American, cheddar, and provolone flavors. According to Bloomberg, testing will begin in 30 Giant Eagle supermarkets in Cleveland, OH starting in November before releasing nationwide next year.

The cheese is made from a coconut oil base, chickpea protein, and modified corn starch. Supposedly, it will cost more than traditional Kraft Singles, yet less than most dairy-free cheeses currently on the market.
