KFC Launching A Food Truck To Provide 70,000 Meals To Families In Need

It’s the holidays, which means the best time of year, and where brands give back. This year, KFC is teaming up with Blessings in a Backpack to ‘Share a Bucket’ and provide nearly 70,000 meals to kids and families in need.

One in six American children struggle with food insecurity during the hours they are not in school so the duo is hitting the road starting on Monday, December 5 in the KFC Sharemobile — a holiday-themed charitable food truck — stopping in Chicago, Orlando, and Houston. The KFC Sharemobile is wrapped in illustrations representing the joy that gatherings bring during the holiday season.

Why Chicago, Orlando and Houston? KFC selected communities that have been recently affected by food insecurity or other hardships that make it more difficult for families to put food on the table this holiday.

  • Chicago: The pandemic has accelerated food insecurity in the Windy City and families are finding it difficult to put food on the table.
  • Orlando: The recent hurricane season devastated communities throughout Florida and displaced hundreds of families, so KFC will be visiting an elementary school in Orlando to provide meals that help bridge the need gap.
  • Houston: The KFC Sharemobile tour will end in Houston as many are having a hard time meeting basic needs following the winter storm that shut down power, the pandemic, and busy hurricane seasons that greatly affected the city the last few years.

“The generous donations from KFC could not have come at a better time, as these communities have been particularly hard-hit this year with rising food costs, inflation and various natural disasters,” said Erin Kerr, CEO, Blessings in a Backpack. “Because of KFC’s support, we’re able to spread holiday cheer by donating meals for hunger-free weekends and meet each community’s needs.”

Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that feeds children specifically on the weekends because their families are unable to provide a full meal. During the week, these students are fed at school.
