KFC Responds to Competitors by Unveiling New Bite-Sized Chicken

In the wake of fast food giants adding portable chicken options to their menus, KFC has taken this week to unveil what they are dubbing ‘the biggest product launch since Kentucky Grilled Chicken’ — Original Recipe Bites.

Not to be confused with KFC Popcorn Chicken, which are also advertised as “bite-sized pieces of all-white meat chicken,” these new Original Recipe Bites seem to be a bit larger in size and fall more into the category of a nugget than the Popcorn Chicken did.

The new Original Recipe Bites features the Colonel’s signature Original Recipe blend of 11 herbs and spices mixed with big bite-sized pieces of 100 percent breast meat chicken. KFC’s press release on the matter states that the Bites are freshly prepared and hand breaded — an obvious nod to the recently released Chicken McBites from the folks over at McDonald’s.

You can imagine KFC was none too pleased with McDonald’s making the jump into their territory earlier this year with the launch of Chicken McBites. The rollout was shortly followed up by a spotting of Fish McBites during the Lent season and the Golden Arches recently adding a Spicy Chicken McBites variety to the growing menu.

The Original Recipe Bites are available in both six- and 10-piece portions, and can be ordered a la carte or as a combo meal with side item and a medium drink. For a limited time, the six-piece combo is at a promotional price of $3.99 at participating locations nationwide.

For those who’ve tried the new Bites, we’d love to hear your thoughts on them in the comments. Are they as good as McDonald’s McBites? Better? Worse? Unnecessary?
