KFC: Introduces Industry First Reusable Side Container

Until evidence proves otherwise, KFC has just released the fast food industry’s first reusable side container. The same container was recently honored as a winner in the 2010 Greener Package Awards, featuring a clear bowl with a red lid embossed with the KFC branding and a “reusable” message. The bowl is both reusable and wash safe, microwaveable and top-rack safe (dishwasher!).  The bowl utilizes “ventless vent” technology, allowing moisture to escape without the need for a hole in the lid. This results in a leak-resistant lid that supposedly has a secure fit and keeps food fresh. The bowl is part of a larger initiative for the KFC chain to reduce foam use by 62% and plastic use by 17% by the end of 2010.
