KFC’s France Exclusive Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger Would Be Perfect in the US

On a recent trip to the KFC headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, I had the chance to try a France-exclusive menu item called the Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger. Upon some research, apparently calling chicken sandwiches a burger are a thing pretty much anywhere outside of America.

Initial confusion by the name aside, I was hyped to give an international KFC menu item a try, simply for the fact that they’re usually more intriguing — and that goes for any other fast food chain.

For some quick background on the Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger, it features a fried chicken filet, pickled jalapeños, barbecue sauce, bacon, crispy onions and melted cheddar cheese. KFC originally launched it first as the Kentucky Burger for a limited time only in France back in 2020, then becoming a part of the core menu in 2021 due to it becoming a top seller in the country. Because of its popularity, KFC launched its variant, the Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger, in January 2022.

Based on the ingredients and flavor profile, I’m amazed that this seemingly all-American sandwich isn’t already on the KFC menu here in the US. Can you get anymore American than barbecue sauce, fried chicken and bacon?

The Colonel better take notice, because the Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger is a certified banger and would do well with pleasing the American palate, as it hearkens back to “western” flavors that can be attributed to the U.S. And simply put, all the elements put together that make up the Kentucky Spicy BBQ Burger — barbecue sauce, bacon, crispy onions, jalapenos, melted cheese — are tried and true hits.
