Disney Channel Sends Get Well Cookie To Kevin Smith, Calling Him Kevin James Instead

Friends & folks I work with have been sending thoughtful Get Well baskets since I got home. But @disneychannel just won the prize for funniest gift when they sent these cookies. Last week I was telling the folks there that a certain percentage of people I meet always call me #kevinjames. So THIS is an insanely well-timed joke on tasty treat that I won’t eat because I’m thinking about getting it framed instead. Thanks to everybody for the flowers, baskets and well-wishes! Earlier this week, movie director and actor Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack while shooting his new standup special. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered that his LAD artery was completely clogged.

Losing the LAD artery (also known as the Widow Maker) is pretty much a kiss of death, Smith said. If he had not sought medical attention as soon as he felt the symptoms, Smith would have surely died.

I was trying to do a killer standup special this evening but I might’ve gone too far. After the first show, I felt kinda nauseous. I threw up a little but it didn’t seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life at the #glendale hospital told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (also known as “the Widow-Maker” because when it goes, you’re a goner). If I hadn’t canceled the second show to go to the hospital, the Doc said I would’ve died tonight. For now, I’m still above ground! But this is what I learned about myself during this crisis: death was always the thing I was most terrified of in life. When the time came, I never imagined I’d ever be able to die with dignity – I assumed I’d die screaming, like my Dad (who lost his life to a massive heart attack). But even as they cut into my groin to slip a stent into the lethal Widow-Maker, I was filled with a sense of calm. I’ve had a great life: loved by parents who raised me to become the individual I am. I’ve had a weird, wonderful career in all sorts of media, amazing friends, the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter who made me a Dad. But as I stared into the infinite, I realized I was relatively content. Yes, I’d miss life as it moved on without me – and I was bummed we weren’t gonna get to make #jayandsilentbobreboot before I shuffled loose the mortal coil. But generally speaking, I was okay with the end, if this was gonna be it. I’ve gotten to do so many cool things and I’ve had so many adventures – how could I be shitty about finally paying the tab. But the good folks at the Glendale hospital had other plans and the expertise to mend me. Total strangers saved my life tonight (as well as my friends @jordanmonsanto & @iamemilydawn, who called the ambulance). This is all a part of my mythology now and I’m sure I’ll be facing some lifestyle changes (maybe it’s time to go Vegan). But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight… and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be. I don’t want my life to end but if it ends, I can’t complain. It was such a gift. #KevinSmith

While he focused on recuperating, fans and colleagues have been sending prayers and well wishes, and even gift baskets to the director.

Disney Channel, in a hilarious goof, sent Smith a ‘Get Well Soon’ cookie — but addressed it to actor Kevin James instead. The director of Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back admitted that he often gets confused with Kevin James, who is most famous for his role in The King of Queens and the Paul Blart movie franchise.

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig! Home is where the heart is and the heart is feeling good! It’s actually getting more blood flow and oxygen than it has in a long time. So I am ALERT, to say the least! I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words you took the time to write to me about what my work has meant to you. In the last two days, I’ve read some breathtaking sentiments that have profoundly touched me. It honestly means the world under normal circumstances, but after Sunday night? As a lifelong Smith fan (minus Yoga Hosers), I was pretty shocked to find out people got the two actors confused with one another. Talking to the Foodbeast staff over the recent events of Smith’s heart attack, however, a few of the team did mistake him for Kevin James.

Whether Disney’s care package was completely accidental or intentional, it definitely seemed to cheer Smith up.

Smith, after his near brush with death, announced on social media that he planned to adopt a new vegetarian lifestyle. Best of luck to you, sir.
