I Ate In-N-Out For 30 Days Straight, Here’s What Happened
My name is Dustin Wang. I’m 20 years old, I go to the University of California, Irvine and I’m going to eat In-N-Out everyday for 30 days straight. I weighed in at 158 at the beginning of the diet. I’m sure I’ll gain some weight, but the real question is: will my love for In-N-Out fade away?
The rules:
1. I must eat at least one In-N-Out meal per day.
2. I must order at least a two patty burger (Double Double or greater) with an order of french fries.
3. I have do to it for thirty days straight, no breaks in between.
Day 1
What I ate: “4×4” cheeseburger, Animal Style fries and a 7UP.
How I feel: Starting off the first day with a bang with my first 4×4! The 4×4 is delicious! It’s like double the “Double Double,” making it quadruply good.
Day 1 Q&A
O: OC Native, D: Dustin Wang
O: Tell me a bit about yourself.
D: My name’s Dustin Wang. I’m 20 years old and I’m a student at UC Irvine. I’m a transplant from Virginia and came to California for college.
O: Why did you decide to take on this challenge?
D: I really love In-N-Out, so why not eat it for 30 days? I don’t think it’ll be too much of a challenge.
O: Why do you love In-N-Out?
D: I’ve been eating fast food since I was a kid. And on the East Coast, all the fast food places suck. The best thing we have out there is McDonald’s.
I first time I heard about In-N-Out was in an article online where this writer described In-N-Out as the best hamburger in the world. I can’t recall exactly what he said in the post, but he wrote a vivid description of the best, juiciest burger from the In-N-Out at the Las Vegas Strip.
I decided to come out to California for college and the first thing I did when I landed was drive from the airport to the nearest In-N-Out. I ordered a Double Double and Animal Style Fries and it was the most delicious thing I had ever eaten. I had no idea that fast food could be that good.
O: Do you think you’ll gain weight?
D: I think the real question should be, “How much weight will I gain?” I’m usually pretty healthy, I work out almost everyday and I’ll continue to do so.
Day 3
What I ate: “3×3” protein style, Animal Style fries and a 7 UP. How I feel: Feeling pretty good. Ran two miles this morning. Protein style is a bit messy to eat, but definitely feels lighter compared to a regular bun. Fries are still fries, delicious.
Day 5
What I ate: Double Double (with chillies and extra toasted bun), Animal style fries with chillies and a medium lemonade.
How I feel: I think I hit the point where In-N-Out stopped being something I look forward to. Feeling a little sluggish today.
Day 8
What I ate: Double Double (with whole grilled onions, extra lettuce, extra tomato, chopped chillies and no cheese), well done fries and a medium Coke.
How I feel: Today sucks. Definitely don’t want In-N-Out right now.
Day 11
What I ate: Double Double (with whole grilled onions, chopped chilies and an extra toasted bun), with well done Animal Style fries and a medium Coke.
How I feel: You know how you get that satisfaction after eating something delicious? Yeah that’s gone.
Day 14
What I ate: 3×3 (with no cheese, whole grilled onions, chopped chilies and extra toasted bun), well done french fries and a medium 7UP.
How I feel: My body literally felt a little nauseous eating the fries. Burger tastes bad. Not juicy at all. Worst meal so far. Not sure if poorly made or if my body is rejecting the food.
Day 19
What I ate: Animal Style 3×3 (with whole grilled onions, chilies and extra toasted bun), Animal Style fries with chilies and water.
How I feel: Meh meh meh.
Day 23
What I ate: Double Double (with whole grilled onions, chopped chilies and extra toasted bun), well done french fries and water.
How I feel: One more week left, I can’t believe it’s almost over. I’m looking forward to the end of this challenge…
Day 29
What I ate: Double Double (with onions), french fries and water.
How I feel: Tomorrow is the last day. More excited than anything to immediately start a juice cleanse. As a survivor, I can tell you that fries are the hardest part of this challenge.
Day 30
What I ate: Double Double (with whole grilled onions, chopped chilies and extra toasted bun), well done Animal Style fries and a Medium Coke.
How I feel: AMAZING. I definitely don’t think I’ll be able to eat In-N-Out for a good while. I only gained two pounds through the 30 days. My final weight was 160 pounds. I will say, although In-N-Out is delicious every once in a while and it’s a high quality product, I would not eat it for a month straight again. Please don’t try this.
