How to Make George Bluth Senior’s Corn Ballers from Arrested Development

Cornballers

The short-lived, and recently revived, Arrested Development gave us many things to laugh and cry about. One thing in particular that saddened me greatly was that George Bluth Senior could never use the machine “Cornballers” without burning someone. The patriarch of the Bluth family tried unsucessfully to distribute the Cornballers making machine numerous times, which usually ended in someone getting seriously burned.

Thanks to Randi Milgram of Hello Giggles, however, we now have a recipe for Corn Ballers that we can enjoy without the fear of burning ourselves. Enjoy!

__________

How to Make George Bluth Senior’s Corn Ballers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose or whole-wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt (fried things must be salty)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 cup frozen corn kernels
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/4 cups of unsweetened plain almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon flax for one flax egg (see below)
  • Lots of oil for frying

How To Make It

  • Making the flax eggs. Take 1 tablespoon of ground flax and mix with 3 tablespoons of warm water. Whisk it together until gooey. A blender or something similar should make things easier.
  • Mix your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Mix oil, milk and flax egg together and add it to the dry ingredients. Add the corn and mix everything together well.
  • Heat up a large stockpot, filled with 1/4 inch of oil, on high heat. Roll your batter into balls and drop into the oil. Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 6-8 minutes on medium-high heat.
  • Turn heat down to low before you flip the balls over to the other side too cook. Once flipped, cover the pot, turn the heat back up to medium-high and cook for another 6-8 minutes.
  • Check the balls occasionally to make sure they don’t burn.
  • Also works with a deep-fryer.
  • Allow the corn ballers to cool before eating.
