This Record-Setting $1,000 Golden Sundae Is Next Level Treat Yourself

We’re smack dab in the middle of National Ice Cream Month and any foodie with a sweet tooth will want to get that refreshing fix of dairy before the summer heat gets to them. If you’re willing to stretch your wallet just a little and spoil yourselves rotten with a fancy dessert, this might be the one big thing to spend some moolah on.

Serendipity 3, also known as the New York city-based ice cream parlor that serves unforgettable and whimsical desserts, created a sundae so decadent it set a world record for most expensive sundae. Called the Golden Opulence Sundae, the dessert costs $1,000 and must be ordered 48 hours in advance.

It’s made up of three scoops of rich Tahitian vanilla ice cream that’s been infused with Madagascar vanilla beans, which is then enrobed in 23K edible gold. The world’s most expensive chocolate (Amedei Porcelanan) and the world’s rarest chocolate (Amedei Chuao) are drizzled on top of the sundae.

Placed in a Baccarat crystal goblet that patrons can take home once they finish their sundae, the dessert is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Pairs, gold dragnets, chocolate truffles from Switzerland and is finally crowned with a gold-plated sugar orchid. What a decadent mouthful.

You can find the sundae at Serendipity 3 through July, AKA National Ice Cream Month. Just make sure you call two days ahead to place your order before you cash out your savings.
