‘Four Loko’ Maker Ceases Distribution to the State of New York
Add the state of New York as the latest region to ban the growingly popular energy drink Four Loko. The drink’s creators Phusion Projects has voluntarily ceased the distribution of its caffeinated-energy-alcohol varieties to the state. The agreement they’ve reached with the New York State Liquor Authority opens up the possibility of resuming sale in the future, dependent upon any emerging information in the research behind the drink’s reported dangerous side effects (and similar caffeinated+alcoholic beverages from other brands). The distribution to New York State will go into effect on Friday, November 19th.
It should be noted that the Four Loko brand and its parent company Phusion Projects, LLC, have taken some very admirable steps in complying with many concerns that have been raised. They’ve added multiple additional label warnings to their products, their alcohol-by-volume warnings are compliant with laws and their website boasts very accessible Responsible Marketing Guides for their products and the wholesalers that bring them to market.
