Find Out Where Jack In The Box Is Testing New Smashburgers

The movement from decadent gourmet burgers to simpler, crispy smashburgers has been gaining traction in recent years. Though the people have spoken loudly about their preference for quite some time now, we haven’t really seen that translate to more smashburgers at fast food joints.

So when I got word from a credible source that Jack In The Box was testing out their version of smashburgers at select Los Angeles-area locations, I knew I had to check them out — expeditiously.

I arrived at one of the locations (7201 S. Western Avenue), and saw advertisement at the drive-thru for the Smashed Jack, which comes in a single and a double with bacon — of course I got both. One thing to note, it took longer than usual to get my order, which was explained by an employee that it takes around 5-7 minutes to cook the burgers. I’m guessing theyre still getting used to the workflow of trying to make the smash patties.

I reached out to Jack In The Box regarding the Smashed Jack being tested and they stated:

This new burger features a quarter pound of seasoned beef with imperfect edges, melty American cheese, pickles and grilled onions on a brioche bun and will also introduce a new sauce. In true Jack fashion, we’re always looking for new ways to innovate products we know our customers are craving and are excited to be testing our latest innovation in select locations in Los Angeles and San Diego.

As for the final verdict? I thought both options were solid fast food burgers and appreciated the grilled onions, crunchy pickles, and brioche bun. Unfortunately, they didn’t feature the signature crispy edges and thin patties that make smashburgers so damn appealing.

Since they’re testing the Smashed Jack, hopefully such feedback could get this burger right where it needs to be. Fingers crossed that the masses are treated to true smashburgers soon, whether at Jack In The Box or any other fast food giant.
