Police Officer Cooks Dinner For Lonely Seniors And It Was Beautiful
Loud, unsettling cries were heard coming from an apartment in Rome, so with concern for someone’s general safety, the police were called to make sure everything was OK.
Once the police arrived to the apartment, they learned the cries were coming from an elderly couple who were not only terribly lonely, but also distraught over the sad news that they kept watching on the news.
The couple had had enough, to the point of tears, and probably said what you and I surely often say, ‘What is wrong with this world?’ Aside from the sadness of the daily news, the couple told the officers that they hadn’t had a single visitor in years. That means not even any family or friends. All the two had was each other, and while that can go a long way, there’s nothing like the presence of others to bring much-needed comfort.
The Roman police were in the apartment, watching the 84-year-old Jole and her 94-year-old husband Michele, essentially give up on the world as we know it, so they tried to help out the best way any Italian could, by making this wonderful couple some pasta.
It wasn’t anything fancy, but the butter and Parmesan spaghetti, along with the priceless company of the police, were much more than the couple expected.
Jole and Michele had the chance to have a legitimate conversation with the police. Human interaction, something different from what the television provided, is what the couple truly needed. They had a chance to tell the officers stories about their 70-year marriage, what it’s like to be with someone for so many years and unfortunately, shared stories about dealing with depression and loneliness together.
Sure, those four police officers didn’t save the world, but with a little pasta and love toward their fellow man, they might have saved that couple’s world.
