All Your Favorite Breakfast Foods Top These D.U.I. Fries
Earlier this year, we went on a search for the origin of a low-key Southern California favorite dish, the D.U.I. Fries. D.U.I. Fries are like chili cheese fries, but better, as they’re upgraded with not just pastrami, but pieces of carne asada as well. While you’ll see these fries at several So. Cal spots, our journey for the original led us to Jim’s Super Burger in Pico Rivera, Calif. When we heard the diner also had a breakfast version of the meat-topped fries, we had to take a trip to Pico Rivera and try them out.
Embarking on a new adventure, we found that Breakfast D.U.I. Fries do exist, and it’s almost like they spilled the guts of a breakfast burrito on top of a plate of fries, as they’re topped with gooey chili cheese, huevos con chorizo (eggs scrambled with chorizo), crispy chopped bacon, and pieces of savory chopped sausage for good measure.

Jim’s didn’t mess around, packing the fries with meat, on top of meat, and even more meat. They’re like chili cheese fries on steroids, or breakfast steroids.
The little diner’s owner, Tim Stavrakis, said that after the popularity of its original D.U.I., it decided to try out the breakfast alternative. After trying them ourselves, we can say they got it right, as anything that involves breakfast is always a win, plus you get to pull-apart those gooey-cheese topped fries.

Those who grew up in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California tend to know about D.U.I. Fries, but these Breakfast D.U.I. Fries just took them to a new level. If this is the first you hear of them⸺ you’re welcome.
