Dream Water — The Reverse Energy Drink [OUR LOOK]

When a few samples of Dream Water showed up on our doorstep, we didn’t know what to expect. We lived our entire collegiate and early working careers shooting coffee and energy drinks into our veins in an almost tiring effort to stay awake. So when we noticed that Dream Water was aiming to actually do quite the opposite, we almost left the package out on our office doorstep.

Then we read a little further. The “0-Calorie Sleep and Relaxation Shot“…and even further into it revealed that the drink boasts an “All-Natural” ingredient list.

I’m no health nut, so I’m going to regurgitate how they explain their product works, but after a shot of Dream Water, the GABA helps you relax and reduce anxiety, the MELATONIN helps induce sleep, and the 5HTP helps improve the quality of that sleep. Their website breaks down the ingredients further, even cites some decent sources in the process so you know they’re not pulling it completely out of thin air:

I suffer from some pretty gnarly back pain, so heading home after work, I knew I solid nights sleep usually doesn’t happen easy. The instructions mention that the drink’s “kick in” time may vary from person to person, but on average, after consuming, it’ll take about 30 minutes until you’re ready to get your serious sleep on.

I gathered my belongings, grabbed the shot from my desk (pictured below), got home, put on my pajamas, cracked open the Dream Water, and got cozy with with an episode of How I Met Your Mother. I must admit, I definitely did feel the effects towards the end of the episode. I started dozin’ off around 10:50 p.m., heard a phone call come in, was too tired to pick it up, and ended up sleeping until my alarm at 8:00 a.m. the next morning, with no interruption in sleep whatsoever.

Promising first experience, that’s for sure. Important to note, this was my first experience with the product. Very few variables were taken into account…I normally don’t have a very hard time sleeping, but I usually have to get up once or twice to pee (I love tea before bed…sue me). One thing that I did like was the solid block of sleep that I got, which I’d like to naively credit to the Dream Water.

I decided to try out the “Lullaby Lemon” flavor the next night, to see if the flavor was any better and if I could replicate the solid block of sleep I had the night before.

Unfortunately, the flavor was just as uninviting as the Snoozeberry. On the “effect” side, I fell asleep around 11 p.m. (roughly 50 minutes after consuming, following the same How I Met Your Mother Routine), but I woke up at 4 a.m., was pretty alert for a good 40 minutes, and then went back to bed until 9 a.m.

Not as effective as Night 1, but the individual 5-hour and 3ish-hour blocks of sleep were pretty satisfying.

The products come in three flavors, Snoozeberry (Blueberries & Pomegranate), Lullaby Lemon (w/ hints of Tea), and Pineapple PM. The one I tried for the night was Snoozeberry — a bearable flavor at best, I definitely wouldn’t drink it for the taste. But if the product can continually push a solid night’s sleep, I could get behind it.

A 6-pack of 2.5 oz shot containers will run you $19.99, with a 12-pack running $38.99 and 24-pack setting you back $71.99.
