Domino’s To Start Using AI Technology To Help Make Pizzas

Domino’s Pizza recently announced their plans to utilize a generative AI assistant that will help make your pizza. In partnership with Microsoft Cloud and Azure OpenAI Service, Domino’s will be serving more personalized orders and implementing simplified store logistics, improving both the customer and employee experience.

If you recall, Domino’s introduced an AI tool back in 2019 which they aptly named DOM. DOM would evaluate each freshly cooked pizza with its scanner, analyzing the toppings, how evenly the cheese was spread, etc., before the employee could slice and box it. Since, the company has developed several innovative ordering platforms including text-to-order, Amazon’s Alexa, and others. And most recently, the launch of Pinpoint Delivery, allowing pizza-lovers to have their order delivered nearly anywhere, such as parks, baseball fields, and beaches.

While this new AI undertaking will begin with the relaunch of Domino’s website, kickstarting the improvement of the customer personalization experience, the most expansive AI capabilities Domino’s will invest in will be in the back of house. “We have to think about the way that this technology can be best utilized to drive customer satisfaction and efficiency in our stores,” says Kelly Garcia, Domino’s Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “We’re broadening on how this new, quickly-moving technology can change the pattern of online ordering in a meaningful way.”

Domino’s is jumping on this technology early because Garcia believes it’s crucial to be an early adapter and not get left behind. While this is estimated to be a five-year project overall, Domino’s expects to begin bringing these generative AI-powered solutions into stores within the next six months. Garcia added, “I can’t 100% say yet what all the outcomes will be, but us being experts in the space on the cutting edge with a partner like Microsoft will increase the likelihood of really fantastic results for our franchisees, customers and team members.”
