Deep Fried Chicken Nugget Cupcakes Are a Real Thing

Don’t worry, it’s not nearly as dubious as it sounds. Truth is, these surprisingly realistic chicken nugget cupcakes are all deep fried dough, egg and sugar (no ammonia-bathed, pink yogurt-y monstrosities to be found). But if you’re looking for a fun, easy way to trick your kids into some after-school snacks that are a little less bad for them–(I mean, at least they’re “real”)–look no further than this neat little recycled-cupcake recipe, no actual baking required.

Who knew a few little white lies could taste so good?

Full disclosure: Foodiggity’s coverage featured these bad boys as “Cupcake McNuggets,” so I’ll admit I was a little disappointed when I couldn’t find any of the traditional “boot” shapes. But after reading that they taste pretty much like tiny, poultry-looking doughnuts, all was forgiven. Kind of.

Check out the full recipe for yourself (along with tips on really selling the ruse with raspberry “BBQ sauce,” vanilla “ranch” and lemon curd “mustard”) at Cupcake Project.

What do you guys think? Are cupcakes shaped like chicken nuggets awesome, or way too cognitive dissonance-y for your taste?
