Craving: Mangosteen

Mangosteen

Indigenous to warmer, tropical weathers, most people in North America don’t even know what a mangosteen is. This delicious tart yet sweet fruit comes from a tree called the purple mangosteen. It has a tough outer exterior that’s easily pealed away revealing tiny little wedges of its fruit. When I visited Vietnam as a child, I would buy these by the bagfull and sit out on the sidewalk and just eat away as I watched traffic go by. Now you can find these little things in most Asian supermarkets. (PicThx SurfFood)
