A&W Restaurant Made A Diamond Ring Out Of Cremated Cod Sandwiches

A&W Restaurants is making sure that love is still in the air post Valentine’s Day with the release of the new flaky, beer-battered Quarter Pound Cod Sandwich. The fish itself is wild-caught Atlantic cod, known as an aphrodisiac. It’s served on a brioche bun and topped with pickles and tartar sauce. If that doesn’t tug on your heart strings, then know that in celebration of this past V-Day, A&W found a genius way to transform the sandwich into jewelry.

The brand worked with full-service advertising agency, Cornett, to craft a unique piece of jewelry by extracting carbon from the cremated leftovers of six A&W Quarter Pound Cod Sandwiches. The inventive technique was made possible by partnering with LifeGem, and takes a full month to pull off. Using a machine that mimics the heat and pressure under the Earth’s crust, the carbon forms into an actual diamond. What’s more, the diamond is orange-colored, 1 carat, and precisely cut to fit an exclusive ring.

“Whether it’s a spouse, a pet, or a Quarter Pound Cod Sandwich from A&W, we only have a limited amount of time with the ones we love,” said LifeGem cofounder Dean VandenBiesen. “A LifeGem diamond is the perfect way to memorialize that fleeting love in an object known for its beauty and permanence.”

Additionally, A&W partnered with Timeless Treasures of Kentucky to create a complete line of Cod-based jewelry. The collection consists of a charm bracelet, cufflinks, a pendant necklace, and a marbled set of teardrop Root Beer Float earrings. Unfortunately, the jewelry was only available via a contest, but thankfully, the Quarter Pound Cod Sandwich is still on menus nationwide until April 14.
